He's Here

So I woke up on May 8th ready to get all the rest of my to-do list finished while I had a few days off work before I had my last day, the 14th, which was when my maternity leave was supposed to start.  I woke up and headed downstairs to let Jax out for the day.  As I was putting his collar on I realized that I was either peeing my pants or my water had broke.  I kept thinking there is no way that my water is breaking and pregnancy does weird things to you so maybe I totally just peed even though I had just gone.  Well, I went upstairs and told Alec what had happened and he right away was like sweet we are having a kid today.  I still was not convinced and I definitely did not want to go to the hospital for them to tell me that "oh no, you've just had an accident".  So I told Alec I was going to wait and just see what my doc said at my appt at 9:30 that day.  Alec was not ok with this option and told me we needed to head out right then.  So I got in the shower and got ready, slowly might I add, because again I was in denial.  When I finally got ready...:), Alec had everything in the car and we were off to Provo.  Alec was speeding and deep down hoping that he would get pulled over just so he could say my wife is in labor and we are headed to the hospital and then have a police escort to the hospital. So funny a guys dream of how the day should go:).  When we got to the hospital we headed to labor and delivery.  We were on the elevator on our way up with a doc and he said you having a baby today and I was like I don't know maybe, and told him what happened.  His first question was is this your first.  I was like yep.  Well, I knew what he was thinking.... "oh cute this girl thinks she is in labor, she wishes", but instead he said good luck.  He ended up being my anesthesiologist and I think was surprised to see I was still there.  Well, yes in fact my water had broke, so yes I was admitted, and yes I was having my little guy that day even though I still was in denial about the whole thing.
The nurse started me on pitocin to get things going and then the pain started:).  When I was almost at a 6 I decided it was time for the epidural, and boy was it.  Right after I got the epidural I started progressing pretty fast.  The nurse kept saying oh I guess we should check and was always shocked when she would.  Then she started noticing our little guys heart rate was decreasing with all my contractions pretty drastically.  You knew they were worried when you had other nurses rushing into the room trying to play it cool but always asking "is it ok, should I get the doc."

They tried to move me around from side to side to see if that helped but nothing was working.  Then they gave me the oxygen hoping that would help the little guy, but he was just not liking the contractions.  They thought it was going down because I was progressing so quickly.  It was a busy day for my doc, I think she did 4 c-sections with-in a hour of when I had him.  They did not want me to start pushing till she was in the room though because of his heart rate, so they pumped me full of fluid hoping that would help him turn a bit and ease up some of the pressure on him from the contractions and just slow the process down till the doc could come in.  When she finally came in it took a total of 3 contractions to get the little guy here.  He ended up having the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.  He came out cried, was checked out by the team of nurses and NICU team that had come in because of his heart rate and everything checked out so we were good to hold him.

So Crew Brady Gustafson was born May 8, 2013, 7 pounds 11 oz and 20 inches long.

Alec was so paranoid they were going to mix him up he put his initials on the bottom of his foot so they couldn't:)

We were tired!

He has had lots of visitors in his first few weeks of life and everyone so far just adores him.
Here is the young lady whom Crew shares a b.day with.  So before having Crew and with all the treatments we did I had so much support from so many people.  She was one of them.  She prayed this baby here and I am so grateful that he gets to share a b.day with such amazing person.  Since I got pregnant we kept saying wouldn't it be amazing if I had him on the 8th instead because Grandma would be so excited.  We knew it was a long shot since it was 12 days before my due date, but we kept hoping.  When I found out Alec had to be in SF on the 14th- 16th I started really praying he would get here on the 8th.  Well folks prayers are answered!:)  When she meant him all she kept saying was that her memory will now live on through him because they share a birthday and we will always remember her.  So sweet!

So he is here.  So grateful and so happy.  We love him so much and it is amazing how that love grows stronger and stronger with each day we get the chance to be with this little piece of heaven!
