Hot Coco, Bon Fires, Skiing, and much more!!!

So another pretty non-eventful week! Fridays come around and I start thinking about what to blog about and realize we are pretty boring!!:)
So I am going to do something a little different this week. Alec and I celebrated our 4th anniversary this month and I missed the boat on blogging about it, so I thought I would do an anniversary blog for Alec today, before January is officially over!!! So happy anniversary Alec (way back on January 8th:))
So lets face it, I am like the worst story teller there is, no joke!!! My stories have a start, and a quick finish! So you know when you just meet a new couple and the question that always comes up is asked..... so what is your story?:) I usually pass this one off to Alec, he is a better story teller. Mine usually goes as follow, we met in a tennis class at BYU-Idaho, we dated for a year, then we didn't date for a year, then we got engaged. It drives Alec crazy!!! He wants me to really tell the story. So I thought for his blog anniversary present I would tell our story! (don't feel like you need to read anymore, it is long!)
So it all began back in Sept. of 2002 in a tennis class up at good old BYU-Idaho. So I have been a tennis player basically all my life and decided why not take a tennis class at school to break me into the whole college thing. I was definitely not expecting to find my future companion there. All I wanted was to find some people to play tennis with and to get an easy "A". So the class was a Mon-Thurs class so basically the first week there was a constant flow of people dropping and adding the class. So one of those days when we were all sitting on the grass waiting to go through the roll routine yet again, a new guy stopped by with his buddy. They all came walking down to the grass strutting there stuff like they were all that:):). The darker one caught my eye. He totally made eye contact with me, and lets just say my heart did that whole skip a beat thing and I had to quickly look away so he could not see me blush!!!:) So yeah, I totally thought he was cute, but the word "player" was written all over him (at least that is what I thought):). He ended up adding the class (I like to think it is because of me:)).
So like two weeks later I got to class and the guy I normally played doubles with was not there, so Alec asked me if I would be his partner! So even while we were playing my first impression stood... player, as he and his buddy were talking about girls. After we played he asked me if I would want to go to the rodeo with him that night. Of course I said yes and was super excited that he did not ask me on like a typical dinner and a movie date!! Well, as I was walking home with my normal doubles partner he asked me if we were still on for Hogi Yogi that night....WHOOPS!!! Of course I was like yeah, I will see you tonight and ran inside and called my mom to see what I should do. Her advice was go with the one that you want to get to know better. So obviously I called the other kid and asked him if we could reschedule.
So our first date was AWESOME! They came and picked me up and had Tim McGraw playing in the car, yep Tim McGraw, like one of my favorites!!! We then headed over to his friends ranch just outside of Rexburg, where we just hung out leaning against the horse gate talking. I felt like a total country girl. Then we headed over to a small home town rodeo where we sat on the swinging gates and just talked all night (well Alec did most of the talking:)). So lets just say I thought it was the perfect first date. Alec then went and dropped me off at my house. He totally did not walk me to my door which I was totally happy about so I not did have to do the awkward door step scene!!! So I was sitting on my couch telling my roommates about he date when we got a knock on a door. It was some random kid that I had never seen and he was asking for me. He then gave me a huge sunflower (like my favorite flower) and told me some kid gave it to him to give to me and then went on to explain Alec. Alec then called me and asked me out for the next night (drive-in movie with his friends in a dump truck:)). So I was totally into Alec, but was not quite sure if he was into me.
Rexburg is not known for it's nice weather, in fact I think the wind is what makes it so memorable. Needless to say our tennis class kept getting canceled because of the weather. One day when our class got canceled Alec called me up and asked me if I was still up for going bridge jumping (on the verge of snowing, like in the 30's, windy, and the water was freezing). Being the stupid girl that I am and trying to impress him I said you bet, lets go. Well, this is when I met the other girl (the one he was deciding between her and I which one he should pursue a relationship with). Well, lets just say I did not think she was the nicest girl I had ever met, actually I really did not like her at all. It was obvious she did not like me either as she was asking Alec all of these super awkward questions, that were totally directed at me being 18 and so on and so on, while we were in the car. We got to the bridge and Alec and his buddy Dustin climbed up to the top of this 50 foot bridge to jump off first. Alec did not do an ordinary jump, he decided to flip his way off, yes, I said flip. I was like what the heck, but hey this kid is totally awesome!!! I then climbed up with him and jumped into the FREEZING water with him. He says this is what sealed the deal!:)

We dated for the rest of the school year. It was such a fun relationship. We had so much fun whether it was just hanging out at his apartment drinking hot chocolate because it was like negative 100 outside or having bon-fires at the dunes. We really did not have to many ordinary dates, most of the time they involved four-wheeling in his friends crazy cars, bon fires in caves, I guess bon fires basically anywhere, skiing, hanging out at his friends ranch with the goats, shooting at stuff like marshmallows in a river, and a lot more. When I knew that this kid really had me was when a bunch of us were making tin foil dinners at the caves and I touched raw meat.... yes, this was like the first time in my life, no joke!!!! This kid really had me, I was hooked....
and then it happened...... he broke up with me. I was so sad, it was horrible. I pretty much vowed I would never talk to him again, which was easy in the summer because he was in Cali and I was in Utah.
Then my second year of school came and luck had it that he literally lived liked two apartments away from me. Talk about nightmare. We bumped into each other a bunch which lets just say some awkward conversations happened. Then we all of the sudden were hanging out again, not dating, just hanging out with each other like all the time!!! It was weird, everybody was wondering what the heck we were doing, but I really did not care, he was fun and I loved being around him.
Well this went on for about a year and then he broke off the friendship all together. Yes, my heart did get ripped out and stepped on yet again. I was now living in Provo trying to get over this stupid kid who I had spent the past two years with. We had a coverstation on the phone, that lets just say I let him have it, and that was it, I was done. Then he decided he needed to write me a letter apologizing for being a total jerk!:)
Fast forward to Oct. of 2004.... I was headed up to Jackson with my sister Krissy and cousin Ali to go to our condo for a week. I invited Alec to come along (I was liking him at this point). So he told me to meet him in Driggs and we would drive over to Jackson together. So I did. At the top of the pass he pulled over and was like lets go hiking (it was 7 at night and pitch black), but hey whatever, so we did. We went up and hiked to the top and as we were coming up there were candles lighting a path up to a spot where there was a bon fire. He played it off like he was doing it to apologize for being a total punk, but ended up proposing (he was so nervous he put the ring on the wrong hand). I of course said yes, and we have now been married for 4 years and it is a total BLAST!!!!!

Emily--- I enjoyed reading your story so much! I always wanted to know how you met 'cuz I remember that one time in like 2003 or 2004 that I came up and stayed with your roommates at BYU-I. Thanks again for that!
Anyway, don't you just love the fun things to do in Rexburg. I miss bridge jumping, dam sliding, hiking, sand dunes, and all that stuff!
Congrats on your 4 year mark!
