Skiing, Snowmobiling, and a Broken Back

So back in November Alec and I got some two-for-ones from Grand Targhee that we need to use by the end of January. So we decided to head up this past weekend and at least use two of them. We stayed with one of Alec's missionary buddies and had a total blast.
On Friday we first stopped at our favorite breakfast spot and got crunchy french toast. It was yummy as ever. Then we headed to the slopes for some skiing. We knew that they have not gotten snow lately, but it was pretty bad (for spoiled normal grand targhee skiers). Since the snow was not great, we bailed a little early and grabbed some Chili at the lodge. It tasted super yummy! Even though it was icy and not the best, we still had a great time.

Since the snow was not so great on Friday we decided not to go back on Saturday. Instead we decided to head over to Alpine and go snowmobiling. Alec was super excited for this since he has wanted to go snowmobiling all season. We had a blast! I have to say I am not the best snowmobile driver, but I had a great time.
We were having fun playing in the powder and getting stuck and what not. It was beautiful up there. I was hoping to see some moose or something, but no luck. The day was going great and all until the end when Alec was riding double on the double snowmobile. He was zipping up his coat when they hit a washout and he landed with all his force on his back. Ok talk about freaky. I was behind him when he fell off and I seriously thought I was going to have a paralyzed husband. When I got to him and he was literally wrything in pain, I was happy to see that he could move his legs and arms. His whole back was seizing up on him. He was in more pain than I had ever seen him in before. Well, we finally got him back to the car and got him some drugs and he was feeling a little better.
Today he went in and got it x-rayed and it looks like he has fractured his spine in three places. Poor guy, he is kind of a gimp right now. The doctor is going to have him get another x-ray tomorrow to verify his findings, but he is thinking it is going to be at least a 12 week recovery period. It is pretty much a total bummer, but I have to say how grateful we are that he did not get more seriously injured!

Besides the whole fractured spine thing we had a total blast!! Thanks again for letting us stay at your place and playing with us Colby and Sara!!!

Dangit! I'm sorry my hubby broke your back hubby's back, Emily! That totally sucks and now we can't go skiing with you next week! I hope he starts to feel better asap and if he needs any more drugs we'll send him some! On a happier note we had a total blast with you guys and hope you come back to play. Promise next time we won't make you sustain any major injuries!

Em, your boy is one of the toughest dudes I think I've ever met! Hopefully staying at home a little now will lead to some baby making in the meantime!
